Firstly I'd try one of those magnets on the end of a cable or the tool that has the "claws" that open to try & hook it out. Failing that, I think I remember reading that you can get away with removing the tail section of the box to get to it. You'll need to drop the propshaft, drain the oil from the box, undo the 4 bolts that hold the tail housing on & hopefully you should be able to access it. HTH
