The Classic Camaro Club represents all owners and enthusiasts of Camaros from the car’s inception and delivery to the first customers in September 1966 to the present day. The Club started in 1990 as a forum for spare parts, information, and news for ANYONE with an interest in Camaros having begun simply as a Camaro Register.
Tim Boles, Camaro Club Secretary owns two very different types of Camaro: A 1968 All original numbers matching 1968 Convertible (called Camilla) and a full on circuit racing car, (called Butch). He has owned both cars since the late 1980s and has been racing Butch almost from the outset, obtaining a full racing license in 1991, he and his partners now hold full International Racing licenses (Group C). Butch really is in a class of its own at many race meetings with well over 500 bhp and original spec brakes and wheels in order to comply with the increasingly strict Historic rules for Historic racing car preparation.
In 1994 Tim set up TCB Racing to manage the opportunity presented by marketing such powerful and popular racing cars. Butch is easily capable of speeds on the track in excess of 150mph and has been timed at 0 to 125mph time in less than 13 seconds in the quarter mile. And that was with diddy little 225/60/15 tyres! These forty-year old cars are quicker in race tune and more powerful than almost every road going supercar available today.
The race series in which Tim Boles has competed in occur around the world, having raced at Sebring USA, Zwartkops and Killarney in South Africa, Europe and of course all over the UK as well as the Island with no speed limits- the Isle of Man. These races encourage a high standard of vehicle preparation and require close adherence to the original specification for the cars.
The cars involved include : Aston Martins, Shelby Mustangs, Ford Galaxies and Falcons, E-type Jaguars, Austin Healeys, Sunbeam Tigers, Chevrolet Corvettes, Lotus Elans and, of course, Chevrolet Camaros.
These races are very popular and have a fanatical following amongst those loving close racing with frequent thrills, spills and overtaking.
The races emulate the TransAm series of the period 1966 to 1970, run in the USA, when the big US manufacturers poured millions of dollars into the development of their “pony-cars” – so named after the Mustang. These cars are also known as "muscle cars" as a direct result of their enormous power outputs making these cars a handful both on and off the track. The full grid, composed of “musclecars” and their opposition, can have over 12,000 BHP on the grid waiting to start.
TCB Racing has, over a number of years, raised money for a number of deserving Charities. The following Charities have benefited: Countryside Foundation for Education, SSAFA, Royal British Legion, Cancer Research, and Children with Leukemia.
Those involved with the team have benefited not only from the considerable press coverage available from becoming involved with this unique Motorsport opportunity, but have also used the special TCB Racing Track Days to reward their best clients with unique days at some of Britain’s premier Race Venues. More unusual and rewarding than Golf Days these corporate hospitality days are hugely successful for Sponsors and their clients.
The Classic Camaro Club seeks to entertain and inform all those with an interest in Camaros. Other services such as decodes, insurance valuations and the like are also available
